Common Problem

Why Can't I Play Fast Double Strokes?

Double strokes break down at high speeds when the second stroke is forced instead of rebounded.

What causes this

Tension and forcing the second stroke remove natural rebound.

How to diagnose

Play doubles at 80 BPM and listen for a weaker second hit.

How to fix it

Practice relaxed doubles from 60 BPM and increase only when both strokes sound equal.

  1. Start slow enough to stay relaxed.
  2. Record or measure the exercise.
  3. Increase BPM only after clean repetitions.
